Who we are

The View at Hill Lodge is a self-catering holiday apartment at 118 High Street, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 1XY, let by its owner, Tom Hesmondhalgh, as a private individual. He is the data controller for this website. For anything to do with your data, use the contact form.

What we collect and why

Enquiries

When you use the contact form we receive your name, email address, and anything else you type, plus an optional phone number and dates. We use it to reply to you. The message is sent to us by email through Resend, our email provider, and kept in our mailbox for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and any booking that follows.

Mailing list

If you sign up to the newsletter we store your email address with Resend and use it to send occasional news about the apartment and Lewes. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time.

Bookings

Bookings and payments are handled by Lodgify, the booking system we use for direct bookings and for Airbnb, Booking.com and Vrbo. When you book, Lodgify collects your name, contact details, guest numbers and payment card details under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card details. We see your booking details, which we need to host you, and we keep them for as long as UK tax law requires us to keep booking records.

Availability

The calendar on this site shows availability read from Lodgify. Nothing about you is sent to Lodgify until you choose to continue to the booking page.

Analytics

We use Plausible, a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies, does not store IP addresses, and does not identify individuals. It tells us which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from, which is all we need. There is no cookie banner because there are no tracking cookies.

Spam protection

The forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. It may set a short-lived, functional token during the check; it is not used to track you.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Vercel, whose servers keep standard access logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for a short period for security and reliability, under Vercel's privacy policy.

Legal basis

Replying to an enquiry and hosting your booking: performance of a contract, or steps you ask us to take before one. The mailing list: your consent, which you can withdraw. Analytics, spam protection and server logs: our legitimate interest in running a small, secure website, with minimal impact on you.

Who we share it with

Only the services named above (Lodgify, Resend, Cloudflare, Vercel, Plausible), each as a processor acting on our instructions, and HMRC if required. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or ask us to send it to you. Use the contact form. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Links to other sites

Our Lewes guides link to venues, attractions and businesses. Their websites have their own privacy policies, which we don't control.

Changes

If this policy changes we'll update the date at the top. Substantial changes to how we use mailing-list data will be emailed to subscribers first.
