Firle Place has been the home of the Gage family for over five hundred years and sits in its park at the foot of the South Downs, with Firle Beacon rising directly behind it. Weddings take the place exclusively, using a mix of rooms in the house and spaces in the park, and the estate’s chefs cook everything from a seated banquet to sharing platters and canapés. Civil ceremonies can be held inside or out; St Peter’s Church, next to the house, is available for Anglican blessings and ceremonies by arrangement.
Getting there from the apartment
Firle is about five and a half miles east of Lewes: out along the A27 past Glynde and right into the village, roughly 15 minutes. A taxi back after the reception is a short, cheap ride, which is not something you can say about many country-house venues.

Firle village is small and its handful of rooms go early. Lewes, fifteen minutes away, has everything a wedding party needs before and after: a flat that sleeps eight with three bathrooms, two parking spaces, pubs and restaurants a few minutes’ walk away, and a castle and the Downs for the day after. Charleston, the Bloomsbury Group’s farmhouse, is five minutes from Firle if anyone wants a quiet Sunday.
