Gote Barn is a Grade II listed Elizabethan barn on Gote Farm, a working dairy farm on the edge of Ringmer with the Downs behind Lewes as the backdrop. It seats up to 150 for the wedding breakfast and takes 200 for the evening, with a wooden bar, dance floor and raised stage inside and two lawns outside: one for welcome drinks and games, the other for a big open-sided stretch tent. The barn isn’t heated, so the season runs from the end of April to early October.
It isn’t licensed for legal ceremonies, so couples marry beforehand and hold a celebrant-led ceremony at the barn. Lewes’s register office, Southover Grange, is a few minutes’ walk from the apartment, which makes the town a very tidy base for the whole day.
Getting there from the apartment
About three and a half miles: out through the Cuilfail tunnel and up the B2192 to Ringmer, roughly 10 minutes. The 28 bus from outside the door goes to Ringmer too, and a taxi back after the party is a short hop.
