Getting there from the apartment

Pangdean is at Pyecombe, just north of Brighton, about 10 miles from Lewes: west along the A27 and a short way up the A23, roughly 20 minutes door to door. The route is dual carriageway almost all the way, which matters when you are in a suit at the end of a long day.

Brighton is the obvious base for Pangdean, and it is loud, expensive and hard to park in on a Saturday. Lewes is twenty minutes the other way: a market town with a castle at the top of the street, dinner within a few minutes’ walk, and two private parking spaces waiting. Six to eight of you get ready together in a flat with three bathrooms rather than across four hotel rooms, and the morning after is a slow breakfast with the Downs out of the window.
