The Jolly Sportsman is a country pub and restaurant with rooms on Chapel Lane in East Chiltington, on the northern edge of the Downs a few miles north-west of Lewes. It cooks with Sussex produce and Sussex wine, has a garden with its own outdoor bar, and was recently reopened after a renovation. Weddings range from a non-exclusive lunch to exclusive hire of the whole pub; East Chiltington’s church is two minutes’ walk up the lane for those marrying there first.
Getting there from the apartment
About five and a half miles: out on the Offham road, through Plumpton, then the lane to East Chiltington, roughly 15 minutes. It is a proper lane at the end, so a taxi is the sensible choice for the return.
